Transfeindlicher Angriff auf Geflüchtete: Polizei schaut weg

Arabic, English & French  version below.

Police look away from transphobic attack against refugee!
On Monday the 21st of November 2016 four men on a train in Frankfurt am Main were able to attack Tarik S. (anonymised name) and follow her until she arrived at Frankfurt am Main Central Station (Hauptbahnhof). Both on the train and after she had gotten off at the central station, she pleaded with fellow passengers for help and was unanimously ignored. The aggressors were able to attack Tarik in the middle of a public area undisturbed. Tarik, left with no other option, attempted to defend herself as best she could. She filmed the aggressors with the hopes of showing the police.
As soon as she was able to leave the situation she ran quickly to find police with the hopes of help and protection. However the police she found at the central station did not take her seriously and refused to believe Tarik despite her having provided video evidence. They merely had a short conversation with her aggressors before allowing them to leave without taking any of their details. Their meagre defence? „We didn’t see the incident ourselves“.
She said about the incident; „I am the victim of acts of transphobia every single day, so this is unfortunately nothing abnormal, but the worst part of this experience for me was to realise that the German police didn’t want to help me and simply allowed the attackers to walk free.“
In this case it wasn’t just the police who allowed this to happen but also many witnesses who ignored Tarik’s cries for help and through their silence and inaction were complicit in the incident. This is sadly a textbook example of how acts of violence against refugees, black people, POCs (people of colour), and the LGBT*QI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans*, queer and intersex) community are able to pervade everyday life for many people through the compliance of the silent masses. It is a fact that members of oppressed groups are often left feeling completely without protection, especially in cases like this where the police have chosen to ignore hate crimes, or in other cases where they’ve even been known to paint victims as offenders.
We would like to support society in taking on the responsibility to help prevent hate crimes and discrimination! The transphobic, homophobic, racist and otherwise xenophobic acts of violence and aggression must stop!
